Stablecoin Quick Start Guide

What are Stablecoins?

Stablecoins are cryptocurrencies designed to maintain a stable value, typically pegged to a fiat currency like the U.S. dollar (USD). Unlike volatile cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin or Ethereum, stablecoins aim to provide price consistency, making them ideal for trading, saving, and everyday transactions.

There are several types of stablecoins:

  • Fiat-backed (e.g., USDC, USDT): Backed 1:1 by reserves in a bank.
  • Crypto-collateralized (e.g., DAI): Backed by other cryptocurrencies through smart contracts.
  • Algorithmic (e.g., the former UST): Use code to manage supply/demand — though these carry more risk.

Stablecoins play a crucial role in the crypto economy, powering decentralized finance (DeFi), enabling fast remittances, providing on-chain liquidity, and serving as a safe haven during market volatility. Their widespread adoption is also pushing regulators and institutions to explore digital dollar frameworks and central bank digital currencies (CBDCs).

Stablecoin Yield Strategies

  • Stablecoin Arbitrage: Profit from price discrepancies between USDT, USDC, DAI, and TUSD across exchanges or chains.
  • DeFi Yield Farming: Earn interest on stablecoins by supplying to protocols like Aave, Compound, Curve, or Yearn.
  • CeFi Lending: Use platforms like Nexo, BlockFi (if revived), or Coinbase Earn to generate yield on stablecoin deposits.
  • Automated Vaults: Deploy capital into auto-compounding stablecoin vaults like Beefy Finance or Morpho for optimized returns.
